"So...What Happened?"

Dear Family & Friends,

The outpouring of support for Lyle, Myrnetta and the whole family has been overwhelming and beautiful.

Lyle was deeply loved and as a result we are getting so many calls asking us two questions “what the heck happened, and how can we help?"

Since we don’t have time to respond to each message, we wanted to share a little more with you here and offer up some practical ways to help us celebrate this life that we all loved so much.

"What the heck happened?"

When people pass away unexpectedly, this is the question that people most want to know and Lyle wouldn’t want you wondering (ha ha), so we wanted to share a little more about what happened.

As Lyle shared in his blog, very recently he went to the doctor for a persistent cough – and found that there were some concerning spots on his lungs.  The doctors were amazed that he was able to physically function so well despite the condition of his lungs, but soon after the discovery he was hospitalized for respiratory issues.

As it turned out, Lyle had cancer – which had spread throughout his body and ultimately had attacked his lungs.  Even though intervention was explored the damage to his lungs was too great and the respiratory issues progressed extremely quickly.

Attempts were made to discharge him from the hospital to seek further cancer treatment, but he was unable to sustain his breathing on home oxygen and had to return to the hospital.

Ultimately, due to the extent of the disease, he was moved to comfort care and passed peacefully surrounded by family and friends on 8/27/2025.

How you can help?

Lyle spent his last hours talking, laughing and saying goodbye in his own way to his loved ones, but due to the short time he had – there are many that still want to say goodbye and celebrate his life.

We are hoping to host two services – one in Trinidad and one in the U.S. to celebrate and remember this special human.

We have received an overwhelming number of calls asking what folks can do.  If you are looking for a tangible way to show your love to Lyle and his family, please feel free to give cash donations to support his services.  You can give through Zelle, CashApp or Venmo using the "GiveInKind" link below.  Please put “Lyle” in the memo line when sending your gifts.

Service Information

We are in the process of planning services for Lyle in both Trinidad and the U.S.  Service information will be shared publicly as soon as it is available.  Stay tuned!

  1. I want to give my heartfelt condolences to Myrnetta and the Daniel family. I am saddened and still in shock. To me Lyle was a big brother, friend, mentor, inspiration, creative genius, masterful communicator and humorist extraordinaire - to name just a few of his many talents and gifts.

I miss you dearly, brother. Heaven will be a crazy-fun place because you’ll be there. If all God’s children got shoes, you’re gonna design mine!

    See you in the morning!

  2. My deepest condolences to Myrnetta and the rest of the Daniel family. I heard this news all the way in Barbados and my heart sank. Such a wonderful bright light now dim for now. But I look forward to that great getting up event. I believe with all my heart Lyle will be there. Thanks for the blogs that kept us updated on your progress. My Bajan family will keep your family in our prayers. This life indeed is too short but there is coming a day when death will be no more. Thanks for the impact you had on my life while I was in Trinidad. See you in the morning.
